Frequently Asked Questions

What is direct primary care?

Under the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model, clients receive comprehensive primary health care directly from their DPC physician, with much better access. The care is paid by monthly subscription instead of fee-for-service billing of insurance.

Because DPC practices do not bill insurance plans, the providers are able to avoid the ever-increasing and costly documentation demands and administrative intrusions that come with accepting insurance.

Because DPC physicians avoid these obligations to insurance companies, they are free to spend that time listening to and treating patients. And because DPC practices eliminate the significant overhead costs of participating in insurance, they can pass the savings on – and give compassionate, attentive and timely care at an affordable cost.

Is this for patients of all ages?

Yes!

Each doctor in the network will see the patients of the ages they are residency-trained to see. We specifically partner with specialists in Family Medicine who can treat all ages from newborn to seniors. If a doctor is a pediatrician or internist and has age restrictions, it will be noted on their profile.

Is this insurance?

No, PURE Primary Care is not an insurance plan, and does not replace the need for insurance to cover expensive and complex healthcare needs. Your separate insurance plan can still be used for labs, imaging, hospital care, or specialty care.

PURE Primary Care affiliates provide highly effective and accessible primary care. It pairs very will with a high deductible insurance plan to help you reduce out of pocket expenses for the year. For small businesses that cannot afford health insurance, DPC is a great benefit to offer your employees to meet most of their needs, and often helps with recruiting and retention. Plus, you only pay for those who participate in the benefit.

What does the subscription fee cover?

The fee covers excellent primary care through office or telemedicine visits, annual wellness exams, well-child exams, sports physicals, school physicals, basic procedures, treatment of acute illness or minor injuries and chronic condition management. In short, primary care physicians are able to treat over 90% of most people's medical needs. Specialists and hospitals exist to handle the rest. Employers who sponsor 200 or more members with PURE will also be eligible for on-site care at their office.

What about vaccines?

PURE membership does not include immunizations. Each practice in our network will handle this according to their practice setup. Hybrid practices that bill insurance generally administer routine vaccines and bill your insurance. True DPC practices will have other arrangements to help you obtain required vaccines. Most are readily available at pharmacies, urgent care clinics, and local health departments also, where patients may use their insurance or obtain them at a discount.

What if I have employees in multiple states?

No problem! PURE participates in a nationwide DPC organization, providing access in nearly every state.
